FHS Day of Caring: 2022

Recently, Firelands High School students had an opportunity to participate in a Day of Caring. This event was organized by Mrs. Horton, FHS Counselor.

On October 12, 2022, students not taking the PSAT used their day off from school for college visits or community service. The Day of Caring was an opportunity for students to earn the community service seal for their graduation diploma. With the help of Mrs. Horton and the United Way, several students donated their time at Lakeview Park in Lorain. They painted older playground equipment and the pavilion, cleaned up courts and fields, and helped with landscaping.

Lorain Mayor, Mr. Jack Bradley, heard about what our students were doing. He requested to meet with them in order to thank them for their efforts. During a pizza lunch, he was able to talk with our students and tell them how much he appreciated their willingness to serve his community.

Mrs. Horton said, “This Day of Caring was made possible with a lot of help from the United Way of Greater Lorain County. It was a wonderful partnership and we look forward to more projects in the future. I am so proud of the students who took time from their scheduled day off to help this community and the kids who will visit the park. Many locals were walking through and kept telling the students how thankful they were that the park was being updated. Our students at Firelands are hard workers and they have the biggest hearts! This was a heartwarming day and I was glad to be a part of it.”

We would like to thank all of the students below for taking part in this service project!
