Kinship Program at Firelands

Did you know that Firelands has a Kinship program? Kinship care refers to the care of children by relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.), friends, adoptive families, foster families and others. This monthly program looks at different avenues of support for the individuals that are providing a positive environment for children and young adults.

The Kinship Network, which started in the 2021-2022 school year, kicked off with a delicious brunch at Firelands BOE on Thursday, September 29th. All Kinship caregivers, including-grandparents, uncles, aunts, foster and adoptive parents were invited to enjoy a vast array of foods and delicious desserts!

At the September meeting, there were over 50 in attendance from four different school districts! These individuals were able to connect with each other, community resources and school districts. Representatives from Ohio KAN, Ohio office on aging, Lorain County JFS, Fostering our Graduates, and others were able to share what resources they have to offer and to answer questions as well as get families connected to outside resources.

We are so thankful for our Kinship families and realize the sacrifice and care they give so fully to our students in our districts. Kinship Network will be meeting monthly. Please save the date for our next meeting – October 28, 2022! If you have questions about the meetings please contact Mrs. Deanna Watts LSW, at dwatts@firelandsschools.org.

Thanks to all who attended and we look forward to next time!

This event was graciously sponsored by Annie Rose Events, an event/wedding planning company servicing Northeast Ohio.
