The Ohio Department of Education has declared Firelands High School, South Amherst Middle School and Firelands Elementary School as renewed Purple Star buildings.
The Purple Star Award is earned for military-friendly schools. Ohio’s military-connected youth requires additional support measures and the renewal states that we are meeting the academic and social emotional needs of these students. The state of Ohio has declared that Firelands Local Schools continues to show a commitment to students and their families that are connected to the US Military.
Each building has designated individual that will support children of military parents. Please see below:

- South Amherst Middle School: Mrs. Lauren Budweg
- Firelands High School: Mr. Rob Clarico
In addition, we have created a website that provides additional information if you are part of a military family.
