SAMS Students with Valentine Cards
The Veterans Club at South Amherst Middle School teamed up with “Hugs for Soldiers” out of Duluth, Georgia to send some cards filled with hugs and encouragement to our deployed soldiers. Mrs. Budweg, Mrs. Doane and Mrs. Neal facilitate this club with the purpose of educating students in a variety of ways to support our soldiers. The most overlooked “American” holiday appears to be Valentines Day. Some would argue that this holiday is especially difficult for the women who are so far away from their families. It was no surprise that some of the high school students from Tri-M (a music honor society) under the direction of Mrs. Johnson joined us in making letters of encouragement this year. “Hugs for Soldiers” was founded in 2003 and is dedicated to offering cards or letters of encouragement to brighten a Soldier’s day. Our “adopted” troops, who are deployed thousands of miles away from home need to be reassured that America cares about them. Thank you to our Firelands Students who provided love and support for our military who make daily sacrifices for our freedom.

Mrs. Neal is the Purple Star advisor for students that attend SAMS. The State of Ohio has recognized Firelands as being a military friendly district and the Veteran’s Club at SAMS is another fine example of the work that is being done.
