Firelands FFA Offering Free Address Signs Through Operation G.R.A.S.S

By: Katelyn Konicek and Taylor Kenska, Firelands FFA Officers

Oberlin, OH- The Firelands FFA chapter is focusing on community safety this year and FFA VECTORhas created a project to help improve emergency response time. After some research, we found that only around 1 in 10 houses have green reflective address signs in their yards. Those signs can improve emergency response time by 20%, which could be the difference between life and death. Firelands Ag. Business class has made it their project to help supply the community with green reflective address signs.

Through Operation G.R.A.S.S., green reflective address safety signs will be made available for free to members of the Firelands community. The first phase of our project is for community members aged 60 and over as well families with disabilities. The chapter is asking for a $15 donation if the requester is willing and able to make a donation. Donations will help make the project sustainable. Free installation is provided upon request. Order yours by February 1st. Signs available while supplies and funds last. Please email if you have questions.

The order form is available here: Operation GRASS Order Form

If Tombstones Could Talk Cemetery Walk: October 20th

Come stroll through the Brownhelm Cemetery where you will step back in time and meet some of Brownhelm’s earliest pioneers and residents. You’ll hear from some of the very first Brownhelm settlers including Colonel Henry Brown, Brownhelm’s namesake, and Hepsibah Bacon, matriarch of the famous Bacon boys after which Bacon Woods is named. You’ll also hear from local Civil War soldiers Thomas Wells and Henry Fairchild about their harrowing experience in battle, and learn about what life was like at home here in Brownhelm from local farmer, Elisha Peck, and preacher’s daughter, Martha Lawrence. You won’t want to miss our costumed re-enactors as they share their life stories in a program that “brings history life!” This is a free program.
