Supporting Firelands Endowment

The Firelands Endowment Trustees work hard to support our students and staff through various endowment opportunities.  Endowment scholarships are permanent funds in which the principal remains intact and is invested. Scholarships are awarded from the income on the investment, thereby leaving the principal to continue to grow and provide funds indefinitely.

A gift to the Community Foundation of Lorain County, our Firelands partner, supports our various giving opportunities. Investments into our community will assist students and staff achieve their academic and career goals.

The Firelands Endowment Fund is supported by the Community Foundation of Lorain County. The Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that began in 1980 and is dedicated to making all of Lorain County a better place to live and work. The Foundation is governed by a 20 member Board of Directors who hire investment managers who pools all assets to increase investment diversification, thereby reducing costs.

Locally, we have the Firelands Endowment Trustees who oversee the accounts managed for The Firelands Local School Districts. These individuals are able to award as much as 5.5% of the average market value of each account, annually. Earnings are reinvested into the principal to keep the funds growing for future needs. The support is used to enhance non-required school programs and student scholarships.

The Firelands Endowment Fund shall be used for the support and enhancement of Education within The Firelands Local School District.

Last year, The Firelands Endowment Trustees awarded $ 30,500.00 to graduating seniors! In addition, they awarded $ 25,880.00 to Firelands teachers.  Since establishment, The Firelands Schools Endowment Committee has awarded over $350,000 in grants to support education in Firelands and over $225,000 in student scholarships.
