Buddy Connect Program

Buddy connect program

Friendships are just plain good for you. In fact, social connectedness is strongly linked to a person’s overall health, including: risk for chronic diseases, depression, happiness, and suicide. To better connect Lorain County adults ages 55 and over to the community, the Lorain County General Health District is launching the Buddy Connect Pilot Program—for no cost. Starting this fall, two phone calls from a volunteer buddy will help you or a loved one to connect to the community; home visits are also available. Call 440-567-4120 to sign up or to volunteer.

Brownhelm Christmas Tree Lighting | November 26th | 6pm | Brownhelm School

After an absence of several years, the old fashioned tradition of lighting the community Christmas Tree and Christmas caroling will be renewed. Everyone is invited so please bring family and friends! We will be meeting in the front lawn of the school just before 6 pm.  We will also be dedicating the new Historic Brownhelm School & Museum sign.

Old Fashioned Holiday at the Benjamin Bacon House “The Homecoming”
Saturday, December 2nd: 3pm-8pm | Sunday, December 3rd: 2pm-6pm  |  Mill Hollow Park

You are invited to travel back in time to 1862 for a holiday gathering at the Benjamin Bacon House.  Re-enactors will portray Brownhelm residents as they prepare for the annual holiday party at the Bacons’. Set during the Civil War, Frederick Bacon is coming home after his resignation in the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.  Elisha Peck will guide you to the house where you will enter the candlelit mill room, parlour and kitchen filled with activity, candlelight and the scents of Christmas.  Tours leave approximately every 12-15 minutes from the Carriage Barn. There will be an outdoor campfire, hearth cooking demonstrations and music in the Carriage Barn, and horse-drawn carriage rides.  Get in the holiday spirit with this annual tradition sponsored by the Lorain County Metro Parks and members of the Brownhelm Historical Association.
