FHS alumnus, Sean Harrison, is the proud winner of the Firelands Athletic Booster’s Car Raffle!
Almost a year ago, our Firelands Athletic Booster Club started talking with Joe Firment Chevrolet about the possibility of receiving a car to be raffled off. The idea of raising much needed funds for the Firelands Athletic Program through a car raffle was a new and exciting opportunity for Firelands.
For only $20, interested people could have a chance at winning a brand-new car! Tickets were sold for almost 6 months and it felt like everyone connected to Firelands had purchased a chance at a new car. Five tickets would be drawn at a September football game and the winner would be chosen from there. After many months of selling tickets, at the Varsity Football game on September 8, 2017, five tickets were drawn:
- Sean Harrison
- Tim Born
- Terry Walter
- Tom Hurd
- Mike Koepp
Those 5 ticket holders were called to the football field. Sean was at a wedding reception in Huron, Ohio, so his sister, Missy Smith, called and told him he was a finalist. Harrison, unable to leave the reception, asked his sister to fill in for him and to call him back when he won! After his name was called as the winner, she had trouble reaching him because his phone would not stop ringing. Harrision said, “once my name was announced people started calling and texting right away. It was an awesome night!”
The 2017 Chevy Cruz that was donated by the Firment family and supported by our Firelands family, has enabled the Firelands Booster Club to purchase new weight room equipment. According to Board Member and long time Firelands Athletic Booster Tom Myers, “the Joe Firment Chevrolet Dearlership was wonderful to work with and we are all eternally grateful for their generosity. Without their backing the improvements to the Firelands High School weight room would not have been possible.”
In appreciation of their generosity, we encourage all Firelands residents who are car shopping to visit Joe Firment at 37995 Chester Road, Avon, OH.
