Did you ever wonder what happens to the left over perishable food when summer break starts?
Our Food Service Coordinator, Mrs. Judy Baumann, uses past trends to anticipate how much perishable food to order. Inevitably, some items will remain when the school year is over.
After the last breakfast and lunch was served at FLSD, Mrs. Baumann packed up the remaining supplies and delivered them to The First Harvest Food Bank. Baumann states, “Predicting the exact amount of food needed throughout the end of the year can be challenging. We are blessed and honored to have Second Harvest Food Bank in our area to continue to feed families when we are off for the summer.” This year, 171 pounds of food were given back to our community. This donation will provide 142 meals to families within in our area!
If you have school-aged student(s) in need of breakfast and lunch this summer, simply text “FOOD” to 877877. You will receive a message back with a location closest to you where they can receive free summer meals.
