Cody Northeim – Class of 2012
As a Lorain County Sheriff’s Deputy, Cody Northeim’s work week can have a wide range of duties. Lorain County spans over 400 miles and the Deputies provide law enforcement for over 63,000 people. As any law enforcement officer, Northeim is dedicated to protecting the people that he serves.
Northeim had an unusual day last month as he was part of the safety detail for actor Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey was filming at The Grafton Correctional Institution for the film White Boy Rick. While this was a change of pace for the dedicated Deputy, he reported it as “any day of service is a good day”!
Northeim graduated with a degree in Natural Resource Law Enforcement from Hocking College. After graduation, he was accepted into the Police Academy at Lorain County Community College where he was president of his class and was presented with the Top Shot Award. He is a certified Vertical Rappel Rescuer and works on the Lorain County Sheriff’s NBI (Northern Ohio Initiative) Boat. In addition, Northeim is on the Riot Ream (Mobil Field Force) and currently is working on becoming an ATV instructor to train fellow deputies for normal patrol operations as well as rescue operations.
Daniel Truitt, Class of 2014
Daniel was the valedictorian of his class while taking dual credit classes (now CCP) from Lorain County Community College (LCCC). Truitt graduated from Firelands High School
with 17 college credits completed and earned a two year Trustee Scholarship from LCCC.
While at LCCC, Truitt joined an undergraduate research team that studies toxic algae blooms in Lake Erie. He also joined the LCCC Chapter of the American Society of Microbiology and the LCCC Pre-Medical Club. In addition, he volunteered at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Recently, Truitt was named among the top community college students in the country. He was honored in the All-USA Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team competition. Only 50 students in the country received this award and Truitt scored the highest.
Through his hard work, Truitt graduated with his bachelor’s degree in biology from Bowling Green University in December, 2016 at just 20 years old. He plans on attending medical school in the fall.
