1-12 grade students: School begins August 30th.
All visitors that enter into the learning environment at Firelands Local School District (FLSD) will be required to have a driver’s license or state ID card scanned into our security system. The system will scan the cards, and then cross reference visitors with the national data base to identify sexual offenders. Raptor will only scan the visitor’s name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with the data base. Once entry is approved, our system will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. At the conclusion of the visit, the badge must be returned to the main office and the visitor will be checked out of the building. Please allow for additional time when visiting the buildings, as this check-in procedure will take a few minutes to complete.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
The Firelands Board of Education approved a random drug testing policy for students in grades 9-12 that participate in athletics or having driving/parking privileges at Firelands High School. The intent of the policy is not to be punitive, but rather to identify an issue early and assist the student and their family in any possible way. A link to our drug testing policy is available here.

New Robotic Opportunities are coming to SAMS!
Firelands Local Schools is proud to announce that South Amherst Middle School (SAMS) has received sponsorship funding via Nordson Corporation Foundation, The Amherst Rotary and Lorain Medina Rural Electric Cooperative to offer its students the opportunity to study, design and compete in robotics. This STEM instruction time will provide an opportunity to enrich our students in engineering, coding, computer science concepts, and overall robotics.
The sponsorship funding will also allow the district to purchase robotic equipment and a game field. Students will be under the guidance of Mr. Chuck Latto, current Project Lead the Way and science teacher at SAMS. Interested students will engage in an application process and those who meet the criteria will be able to participate in this club. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in a competition in the spring!
