THRASHER TO ATTEND US MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT
Firelands High School Senior Brad Thrasher has accepted an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point, and will begin school this fall. Thrasher is an outstanding student and leader at Firelands High School. Brad is ranked in the top #10 of the Class of 2016, with a GPA of 3.98. Thrasher is a member of the National Honors Society, and was chosen as the Firelands Lions Club Student of the Month last October.
Brad is also very active in the community, volunteering his time in such projects as “The Brownhelm Santa Clause” and in the Firelands FFA Chapter’s “Crocheting for the Cause.” He has also been a member of FFA for four years, and is a 13-year member of 4-H, serving in many leadership roles, including President of his 4-H Chapter.
Brad helped lead the Firelands to their second ever football playoff berth last fall, as the Falcons finished the season at 8-3. He was a 4-year letter winner for the Falcons, and was named the Team Offensive MVP the previous three years. Brad had a special senior season, leading Lorain County in rushing yards, and setting numerous Firelands records for touchdowns and rushing yards. Brad was named as a first-team, all-Ohio quarterback in Division IV, and was the NE Lakes, Division IV, Offensive Player of the Year.
Thrasher is the son of Rick and Lisa Thrasher, and is the youngest of three boys. This is the first Falcon to attend West Point in at least a quarter of a century. Brad leaves for boot camp at the end of June, and will begin school at West Point in mid-August.
