Firelands FFA Enjoys a Record Breaking Year at State FFA Convention
Oberlin, OH – The Firelands FFA had its most successful State FFA Conventions in school history last week! On May 4th, 27 students traveled to Columbus for the 2 day convention. Students helped pack meals for over 88,000 people in need, enjoyed leadership sessions, and explored the career show and FFA mall.
Mrs. Finnegan, Katy Tuggle, & Mike Anadell represented the chapter on stage during the National Winners Recognition for earning National Champion Model of Innovation-Community Division at National FFA Convention last year.
Eight students had previously qualified for top-four-in-state proficiencies and interviewed for final placings. Congratulations to Katy Tuggle for winning Accounting, Alex Sabine won Diversified Crop Placement, Brandon Palmer won Agricultural Processing, Mike Anadell won Beef Production Placement, Clayton Spiegelberg earned 2nd place in state for Vegetable Production, Madison Stanley earned 2nd in state for Fruit Production, Katie Fath was 3rd in state for Agricultural Sales Placement, and Megan Brandich earned 4th in state for Goat Production Entrepreneurship. Mike, Brandon, & Alex will all move on to represent Ohio at the national level.
For the first time in school history, Firelands had students selected to be finalists for Star State FFA Degrees (a distinction that puts these students among the top 16 student in FFA in the state). Congratulations to Katy Tuggle-Star Farmer Finalist, Alex Sabine-Star in Agricultural Placement finalist, & Brandon Palmer – Star in Agricultural Business Finalist.
Caitlin Gallagher, Brandon Palmer, & Alex Sabine were recognized as gold rated officers.
Macey Butchko tried out for, and was selected, to compete as one of the top 10 talents acts in Ohio FFA. Macey won 2nd overall in the talent contest. She was also chosen to sing the National Anthem at a session, perform on the Bricker Stage, and be a session entertainer in front of over 8,000 people Friday night.
Pablo Barranco represented the chapter on stage for working with FFA Fights Hunger.
Six members were recognized for earning the State FFA Degree. Congratulations to: Evan Born, Grace Pohorence, Tori Hritsko, Jesse Jones, Sophia Pohorence, & Madi Stanley. These students are now among only about 2% of FFA members to earn this awar, which is the highest degree a high schooler can receive.
During the state FFA president’s retiring address, three Firelands FFA members were invited to assist him on stage in front of over 8,000 people –Mike Anadell, Pablo Barranco, & Jesse Jones.
