Earth Day 2016 at FES

plant a treeOn April 22nd,  the first graders had an opportunity to learn about the renewability and sustainability of paper and paperboard packing while celebrating Earth Day. Staff members from the Employee Volunteer Program at The Nordson Corporation, in conjunction with the  Trees to Cartons program,  helped each student plant a sapling.

The Trees to Cartons program is an outreach and educational program that highlights paperboard packaging. The students, with the help of Nordson employees, planted saplings in paper-based cartons and were told  that they could  plant the tree and the carton when they got home. The cartons provide protection and a natural water funnel for the new trees. As the tree matures, the carton decomposes, which then completes the cycle of trees into cartons, cartons into trees.

Our students enjoyed planting their trees and we are grateful for all of the assistance to help honor Earth Day!

A student holds his sapling straight for planting, while celebrating Crazy Hat Day, too!
