The Educational Service Center of Lorain County’s (ESCLC) annual Middle School Honors Choir & Band Festival Concert was held last week at Keystone High School.
The annual event is by invitation of the Lorain County Middle School Music Teachers, and ESCLC Music Events Steering Committee that meets at the end of each school-year to plan the next year’s music events sponsored by the ESCLC. Students in grades 7 and 8 are invited by their choir or band director to participate in this event held in the spring.
ESC Projects Coordinator, Debbie Hunt and the Keystone music teachers, including Bethany Pearce and Brett Benzin, coordinated the event featuring 111 singers in the choir and 95 instrumentalists in the band.
Janine Baughman, retired vocal director from Otsego Junior High and High School, and Joseph Price, retired Band Director from Vermilion Sailorway Middle School and Vermilion High School were the guest conductors for this event.
The students, selected by their music teachers as their best musicians, were from Clearview, Columbia, Elyria, Firelands, Keystone, Midview, North Ridgeville, Sheffield/Sheffield Lake, Vermilion and Wellington middle schools.
The gymnasium was filled with more than 550 in attendance to hear the Festival Choir perform “Seize the Day,” “Play for me a Simple Melody,” “Jubilate, Allelulia!,” “Send Down the Rain and Sing Allelulia,” and “Clap Your Hands.” The band performed “General Greene March,” “South African Suite,” “Spy Chase,” “Canto” and “The Muppets Greatest Hits.”
Congratulations to all students that took part in this performance!
