Safety & Security Update-February 2016

In efforts to improve our Safety and Security procedures at FLSD, we are happy to announce the following:

Visitors will soon undergo new safety procedures. District wide, a new check-in policy will be enacted for any visitor upon entering the buildings. The system, Raptor, will scan Ohio Drivers licenses, or State of Ohio Identification cards, and then cross reference visitors with the national data base to identify sexual offenders. Raptor will only scan the visitor’s name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with the data base. Once entry is approved, our system will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. At the conclusion of the visit, the badge must be returned to the main office and the visitor will be checked out of the building.  Please allow for additional time when visiting the buildings, as this check-in procedure will take a few minutes to complete.

A new entrance to Firelands Elementary was recently installed. All visitors will be “buzzed” into the main office. From there, visitors that will be entering the learning environment will only be able to enter through a doorway that is located within the office. Previously, a second set of entrance doors were utilized. These doors have now been converted to exit doors and will not be accessible from the outside.

Lastly, new cameras will be installed at Firelands Elementary. These cameras will be integrated with our online safety program, Navigate Prepared. Navigate Prepared is a proven emergency response system that gives first responders immediate eyes-on access, now with live feed, even before arrival.

We appreciate your patience as these new updates are initiated. Please feel free to call your buildings with any questions or concerns.
