Community Update – January 7, 2016

Happy New Year!

Parents for a Safe After-Prom

The first Firelands Prom and After-Prom was held in 1955. Then, the PTA recognized the importance of a safe and fun place for the students to gather after the official Prom was over. This tradition is still going strong today.  The Parents for a Safe After-Prom Environment will be meting on Monday, January 11th at 6:30 in the cafeteria at FHS. All parents are welcome!

The Brownhelm Historical Association

The BHA has been working extremely hard on the old Brownhelm school! Recently work has been completed in the display room. The committee strives to reuse the existing materials whenever possible, and they were able to rebuild cabinets, sinks and counter tops for this area.

Work sessions are held most Tuesdays. Extra hands are always welcome! Please feel free to visit the building (on Tuesdays) to see all of the updates that have been completed!

Community Celebration

A Community Celebration, “We Are Firelands!” will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The Steak Fry will be held at New Russia Township Hall from 6-11 pm. More information will be coming soon.

Cribs for Kids

The Ohio Department of Health, Violence and Injury Prevention Program in conjunction with the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health will provide free Cribs For Kids (CFK) crib “Survival Kits” to families who could not otherwise afford them (while quantities last). Through the coordinated efforts of a network of local and regional health departments, the CFK Program distributes cribs and infant safe sleep education. In order to receive a Cribs for Kids survival kit, income eligible families* must attend an educational class provided by trained local CFK partners staff. In this session, the parent/caregiver(s) receives important education on how to properly use the crib for their child, and they are instructed on infant safe sleep practices. *income must be within WIC guidelines (income may be subject to verification) although recipient does not need to be enrolled in the WIC Program.
