Start Talking With Your Children

Start Talking

Ohio has been hit hard by drug abuse and addiction. By partnering together, we can have a positive impact on the lives of our students and community members.

Start Talking! Building a Drug-Free Future was created to give parents and educators the tools that are needed to start a conversation with our youth about making healthy decisions. It is well-known that talking about risky behavior has a positive impact on the decision-making of our students.  This website will arm our parents, grandparents, guardians, and community members with the tools needed to start important conversations with our youth.

Parents also have the ability to sign up for Parent Tips. These tips are bi-monthly emails from organizations such as the Drug Free Action Alliance that will be sent to your inbox. This information will assist parents in raising substance-free children.

To help you get started, did you know:

Children are less at risk of substance use when:
  • Parents communicate their expectations;
  • Adults listen to them, spend time with them, and explicitly tell them not to use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs;
  • They feel like their community cares about them; and
  • They have something positive to do with their time.
