High school boys soccer: Firelands uses wind to advantage, beats Brookside in sectional final

It has been at least 15 years in the making, along with a little help from Mother Nature.

Having a steady wind with them in the first half, Firelands scored a pair of goals. The Falcons held off a late second half rally to capture a 2-1 Division II Rocky River sectional final win over host Brookside on Oct. 24. It also allows the Falcons to avenge last year’s tournament loss to the Cardinals.

Ending a season, and for five Firelands seniors a high school career, is never easy.

As teary-eyed Falcons filed out of the Holy Name visitors locker room after a disappointing 3-0 loss to the Green Wave in a district semifinal, Firelands’ head coach Diane Price had just a moment to look back on a successful 13-10 season.
