The FHS Art Society helped celebrate the fall harvest through a pumpkin decorating contest hosted in the school library. Mrs. Wilbur approached the art department with this fresh idea to bring a little color into the library. Our friendly neighbors on Henrietta Hill donated pumpkins for the high school students to decorate after school as an elective design challenge. Irregular pumpkins were selected purposely for the design challenge. Students were not permitted to carve open the pumpkins, but could use paint to color, paper ache to sculpt and linoleum cutting tools to etch the surfaces.
Special thanks and gratitude goes to our donors, Miller’s Apple Hill, Rex Gee’s Orchard and Dodd’s Hillcrest Orchard. Thank you for donating the pumpkins.
In all 20 pumpkins were submitted by 9th through 12th grade art society members. Artist identities are kept secret until balloting concludes on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Wilbur is facilitating the election. Students and staff are invited to vote, frequently, for their favorite pumpkin. All voters are entered in to a side-raffle just for participating. Winners will be announced on Friday morning.
