2015 Ohio High School “Emerging Artists” Exhibition Includes Four Falcons
The annual Ohio Art Education Association’s “Ohio High School Emerging Artists Exhibition” kicks off the national “Arts in Education Week” with a state-wide exhibition in our state capital. Every high school across the state was invited to submit up to five works last spring for summer jurying.
Works were accepted based on technical and aesthetic qualities. With drawings created during freshman Art 1, the advancing Firelands finalists are sophomores Morgan Edwards, Grace Habeck, Faith Rico and Ian Valerius. These students continue in competition for best-in-media and best-in-show awards.
The exhibition runs Sept. 14-Oct. 10 at the State Teachers Retirement Building in downtown Columbus.
FHS Artists in 2016 calendar
Original colored pencil illustrations by junior Sarah Slack and freshmen Zach Baldwin and Cora Born have been honored with selection in the 2016 Lorain Co. Solid Waste Mgmt. District Calendar. The LCSWMD invites all area students in grades 1-12 to compete with illustrations that promote the cause “reduce, reuse, recycle”. Their work was selected from a field of 1,381 submissions this year. Find Sarah’s work for September, Cora’s work for October and Zach’s work for December in the beautifully published calendars.
FHS Artists Leave Positive Impression
James Peake, Education Director of FAVA in Oberlin, was Art Society’s guest for an after school origami workshop. The FHS Art Society was training to be origami workshop teachers for the “Sadako; In the Spirit of Peace” series continuing in Oberlin through October 10. Mr. Peake was so impressed with the enthusiasm, skill and attention of our students that he suggested that we make a monthly origami club at FHS in partnership with FAVA.
