Superintendent’s Legislative Update

In an effort to keep our community informed about legislative activity pertaining to education, the most recent update is as follows (Facts in a Flash, Jennifer Hogue, Ohio School Boards Association, 2015):

Budget Update

The Senate Finance Education Subcommittee continued hearing House Bill (HB) 64, the biennial budget.

House Activity

This week the House passed HB 74 regarding state assessments by a vote of 92-1. Click here for a synopsis of the bill.

House Education Committee

The House Education Committee met and heard proponent testimony on HB 113. This legislation would require instruction in sCPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator as a requirement for high school graduation.

House Health and Aging Committee

The House Health and Aging Committee met and accepted a substitute version of HB 89 regarding the Medicaid School Program. Click here for a synopsis of the changes in substitute bill.

New Education-Related Bill

SB 163: Sen. Kris Jordan (R-Ostrander) — with respect to the Common Core State Standards academic standards.
