Firelands Schools Building Advisory Committee

The first meeting of the Firelands Local Schools Building Advisory Committee will occur on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Firelands High School cafeteria.

Any member of the community who is interested in participating in this meeting is invited and encouraged to attend.

The general overview of the Building Advisory Committee is as follows:

  • The committee will meet 4-6 times with the following guidelines:
    • The work of the committee will be complete by the first week in April to meet guidelines associated with the Ohio School Facilities Commission planning process
    • The committee will meet on Thursdays
    • The committee will set future meeting dates at the first meeting on 1/8/14
    • The committee will likely meet two (2) times in January, two (2) times in February, and one (1) or two (2) times in March
  • Purpose:
    • To consider an opportunity to pursue facility upgrades (construction project) including renovation, new construction, and a combination of renovation and new construction
    • Discussion of all building assessments in the district to establish needs and priorities
    • Develop a district master plan for grades k-12
    • Consider the use of partial project funding by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC)
    • Develop a recommendation for the Board of Education consideration by April
  • Process:
    • Presentations on various factors for consideration
      • All current building assessments, enrollment projections, master plan options, budgets/millage, state funding, grade level configuration, curriculum, and any other requested information
    • Discussions—large and small group
    • Potential community meeting for community feedback
