SAMS Fall Sports Wrap-Up

The South Amherst Middle School’s 2014 7th grade football team’s record of 1 & 5 was not indicative of the team’s success. While the team only had one victory over Columbia on the year, they were competitive in every game they played. This was shown by only losing to Buckeye by 6 points and to Black River by 4 points. The team got fundamentally better with each week and if they keep up their good work ethic, the future looks bright for this group of Falcons!

The South Amherst Middle School 8th grade football team finished with a final record of 2-6. This is very impressive considering the team went winless in 7th grade. The team also had a couple more games that were very close at halftime but could not pull out the victory in the second half. The boys worked hard the whole season and showed great improvement the second half of the year. We are looking for this group to stay together and do great things next year at the high school.Falcon with red trim

The 7th grade volleyball team was loaded with talent. We had strong setters, great passers, hard hitters, and amazing servers. Combine all that with a group of hard-working athletes and a “never give up” attitude and that was the 7th grade volleyball team. Our final season record was 15-3. We took 2nd place in the conference and 2nd place in the PAC Tournament. From the beginning of the season we worked hard on having 3 touches,(pass, set, hit) every time the ball was on our side. Then we worked on blocking-at first the girls were just getting touches, but they kept trying and eventually they got the blocks. Everyone had a role on the team, which is why we were so successful. They did work hard at practice to play all the positions, but in the end we learned who we could count on for some skills. When it came to passing, our top passers were Brooklyn Ollis, and Rylee Phillips. We  were lucky to have so many hitters, they were Mackenzie Mack, Emily Stewart, Sam Walcott, Lauren Widener, Ashley Strauss, Ryvers Cogar, Lexy Coggins, and Aramia Kuncel. Our setters were so good this year. Not only were they good at setting, they were great at scoring with tips, dumps into the corners, and digging the ball out of the net. Our setters were Mika Pina, Joselyn Moquete, Gracie Ransom, and Holly Eberhardt. I was so proud of these girls. I look forward to seeing then next year at tryouts for the 8th grade team. Great Job Girls!! GO FALCONS!!!!!

The lady Falcons 8th grade volleyball team had a great season this year. There was much improvement throughout the season. They all showed leadership and dedication as a team. The team almost finished with a .500 record and earned the 8th seed at the end of season Patriot Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament. It was a pleasure to coach this group of athletes and I wish them best of luck in the future!
