High school boys soccer: Brookside Cardinals hand Firelands Falcons first loss in sectional final

Everything seemed to be stacked against Brookside.
Firelands was undefeated. It was playing on its home field. The Cardinals had never advanced into district play.
In the end, none of that mattered as Brookside defeated Firelands, 2-1, on Oct. 18 to win its first ever sectional championship.

Boys soccer: Brookside nabs first sectional title

OUTH AMHERST — As the clock ticked off the waning moments of the game, Brookside goaltender Kenny Pierson wanted to see the ball come his way.

Usually, with their team clinging to a one-goal lead, the goalie would rather see the ball on the other side of the field. Pierson, who made 15 saves, was dominant as his team handed Firelands its first loss of the season, capturing a sectional title with a 2-1 win at the South Amherst Soccer Complex.
