Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is part of a nation-wide effort to prevent substance abuse by our children.  It is a week red ribbon weekwe set aside to educate students in a developmentally appropriate way about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, teach refusal skills, and celebrate a drug-free lifestyle.  Healthy choices are emphasized.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Drug-Free, The Healthy Choice for Me”. There are countless things we can do to keep healthy….eating right, staying active, using proper hygiene, making safe choices, etc. This week we will focus on learning to make healthy choices in all areas of our life.

Firelands Elementary School

As part of this celebration, the entire school may participate in dress-up days. The schedule is as follows:

Monday 10-27        Wear Red Day – everyone will be given a red ribbon to wear

Tuesday 10-28        Mismatch Day – wear your craziest combinations..plaid, stripes, polka dots, clothing inside out, etc!

Wednesday 10-29   Sports Day – wear your favorite team’s jersey or colors

Thursday 10-30      Falcons on The Fly Day – wear your most comfortable walking/jogging clothes and try to complete more laps today than you ever have before

Friday 10-31           Red Ribbon Parties in each classroom at 2:30. Students may dress up according to their grade level’s theme.

Red Ribbon Party Themes:

Kindergarten: “Go to Sleep with Hugs and Dream Away Drugs” –Pajama Party

First Grade: Don’t “Clown” around with drugs – Students should wear mismatched clothes and they are going to make clown ties in the classroom

Second Grade: “Be a Super Hero and Say No to Drugs” – Dress like a Super Hero

Third Grade: Super Hero Theme

Fourth Grade: Storybook Characters

Fifth Grade: “Be a Good Sport and Don’t Do Drugs!” Wear Sports Apparel

South Amherst Middle School

As part of this celebration, the entire school may participate in dress-up days. The schedule is as follows:

Monday 10- 27:  Say No to Drugs-Wear Neon Colors

Tuesday 10-28: SAMS is a NO BULLY ZONE!-Wear Pink

Wednesday 10-29: Be Safe Online-Wear Blue & Orange

Thursday 10-30: Texting Tips for Kids-Wear Green

Friday 10-31: School Pride-School Pride Day-8th grade wear black, 7th-white, 6th  red
