SOUTH AMHERST — On Senior Night, Emma Ranney didn’t disappoint.

The senior threw a five-hitter and helped her own cause with a two-run single in the fifth, leading Firelands to a 6-0 win over Black River on May 6.
The win came one day after the Pirates overcame a two-run deficit with a five-run fifth to defeat the Falcons, 7-5.

“Yesterday, we had four really good innings and then it kind of fell apart in the fifth inning,” said Ranney (7-5), who walked three and struck out three in seven innings. “We really felt that we could’ve done a better job and that we could’ve had that win. This being Senior Night — this is the biggest senior class we’ve had in a while, there’s four of us (Ranney, Amanda Spears, Nicole Rainey and Nicole Strauss) — we just felt that, ‘It’s on our home field, it’s our Senior Night, this is really special, and we really want to have this win.’”
It showed both at the plate and in the field.
