16 FFA members applied for State FFA Proficiency Awards in January. Proficiency awards recognize and celebrate students that excel with their Supervised Agricultural Experience experiential learning projects.
Firelands had 10 district winners: Emma Ranney, Demi Dovin, Jessica Zurcher, David Tipple in two categories, Caitlin Gallagher, Brandon Palmer, Amanda Spears, Tom Schuman, and Katy Tuggle.
Firelands FFA is also pleased to announce that the following members are top-four-in-state finalists and will be featured in the state hall of champions and will be interviewed for final placings at the State FFA Convention in May: Demi Dovin – Dairy Entrepreneurship, Jessica Zurcher – Specialty Animal Production entrepreneurship for her pigeon and dove release business, David Tipple – organic Entrepreneurship for organic corn, Amanda Spears – for Diversified Horticultural Placement for her job at Hook’s Greenhouse, and Alex Sabine – Fruit Production Placement for her jobs at Aufdenkampe Family Farm and Hillcrest Orchard.
