Our students and staff worked hard to support our community over this holiday season. Below you will find the results of all of the good work that was done.
Firelands FFA and Student Council Harvest for America Food Drive
The Firelands FFA and Student Council want to offer a heart-felt thank you for all of the non-perishable donations that were brought in during the first period classes before Thanksgiving! 184 pounds of up-to-one-year expired food were donated to Harvest for Hunger at Second Harvest in Lorain. An amazing 2300 pounds of food was donated to South Amherst United Methodist Church which houses the food distribution pantry for our school district. About 300 people from about 100 families in the Firelands district will directly benefit from the donation. Congratulations to the first period classes that will be enjoying an FFA sponsored donut party on December 12th: in fourth place: Mrs. Notarberardino’s class, third place: Miss Spark’s class, second place: Mrs. Foster’s class, and in first: Mrs. Finnegan’s first period class. The junior class leads the Student Council Tree Lighting contest with the most donations in their grade level, however, all classes did very well and have accrued a great deal of points toward this ongoing contest.
Thank you again to the teachers and students that improved the lives of those in need in our community through this food drive. The huge donation is a reflection of the caring, dedicated citizens of our community.
FFA Christmas Children
The FFA Creed says in part, “I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so – for others as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed…” We try to live by the sentiments of the FFA Creed and this particular line is important especially during the holiday season. For the past 38 years, the Firelands FFA has sponsored several children in need in our community during the annual FFA Christmas Family community service project. The Firelands FFA Chapter collected change for eight days in class for seven children in need in our community. Over the eight days, they collected over $1200 in cash, a new portable DVD player, new perfume, books, DVDs, Fligner’s gift cards, numerous new articles of clothing, purses, and fresh Florida citrus for the children. On Monday, December 16th, about 25 students went shopping for the gifts the children needed and wanted for Christmas. On December 17th, the 83 FFA members wrapped the gifts and gave them to the guidance counselors to deliver in time for Christmas. The Firelands FFA is thankful for the incredible generosity of the FFA members, our teachers, community members, and our parents. We have been reminded that it is important to think of others before ourselves and to be charitable in any way that we can afford to be. “We believe in less need for charity and more of it when needed.”
FES Visual Art Teacher Raffle
The ornament raffle at the FES Winter Concert raised $110. Twenty ornaments were raffled off and the proceeds will go to benefit students in need who are in our school. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. Way to go, Firelands families!

Thanks you to the wonderful community members for their support.
