FHS starts a book club

Student inspired book club starts at FHS.

The newly formed book club at FHS is led by Ms. Notarberardino.  She said, “This club was entirely the idea of students.  As several English teachers have implemented a new reading program into our curriculum, we have noticed our students’ increased enthusiasm for reading.  One of the books that kids cannot stop talking about is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.   The discussion on this book was so intense that one day I actually had to tell my kids that we needed to move ahead with the planned lesson and that we needed to stop talking about this book.  They suggested we start a book club”.

Ms. Notarberardino states, “As we transition to the common core standards, we are really trying to create a culture in which reading and academic discourse are part of the vernacular.  The book club is a great way for like-minded students at the high school to gather and develop a community of readers, thinkers, and learners”!

The next book that the students will read is Divergent by Veronica Roth.   The club meets again on Wednesday, January 22,  in the library from 2:30-3:00.  The book club has become so popular that next year, the book club will be part of the Wednesday morning clubs.book club
