If you ever had the opportunity to spend a few minutes in Mrs. Catley’s classroom, it would be clear to you that she loves her job. Her ease in directing a lesson to her hands-on approach leaves no doubt to her accomplished teaching skills. Mrs. Catley’s first professional experience as a camp counselor at The Murray Ridge Center paved the way for her career in education.
She attended Bowling Green State University and received her degree as a Special Education Teacher. She took time at home to raise her 3 children, all of which are Firelands graduates (one is currently a teacher in the Columbus area). She taught pre-school in Vermilion before finding her home at Firelands Elementary School.
When I asked Mrs. Catley why she choose education as her career, she quickly replied, “The children. I love my time with these young people. It is wonderful everyday. When some of them come back and visit, it is so great. Some of my old students keep projects that they made in kindergarten and they are happy to share them with me. It is great to be able to reconnect with students who I had the chance to teach so many years ago”.
Thank you, Mrs. Catley, for you dedication to all of your students – and for your enthusiasm for your career!
